Butterfly Valve
The Butterfly Valve is a very versatile and economical valve to regulate, isolate, or control the flow of liquids, gases, or other media in industrial systems. Operation-wise, it is similar to a ball valve and is designed for resume shut-off. However, it is considered an advantage to be lighter and smaller than its counterpart. Butterfly valves are widely used in controlling flow in water, oil, and gas applications. The design comprises a disc located in the center of the pipe, which turns 90 degrees from the actuator. The disc can lie either parallel or perpendicular to the flow according to the actuator’s position. Because of their light construction, simple operation, and cheap cost as compared to other valves, butterfly valves are hence often chosen, but in return, they do cause a slight pressure drop when fully open because the disc stays half within the flow path.
